This guide is for you who will be creating a content reference on www4.uib.no. A content reference lets you display content from external sources in the News feed.

Part 1: Fill in the fields
Here you get an overview of the fields you fill in when creating a content reference.

Page settings

Version log message

You can write a short summary of what you changed in this version, e.g. “Added new reference.” This is used for internal tracking only, and is not mandatory.

Language

Choose the main language of the content reference. This should match the language of the page you’re linking to.

Placement in structure (required)

Choose which parent page the content reference should be placed under. This controls where the card is shown in the News feed.

Content

Image: It’s not possible to add a preview image if the page you’re linking to doesn’t have an image. This cannot be overridden.
Publication date: The date shown on the card in the News feed is automatically set to the day you publish the content reference. It’s not possible to change this date afterward.

Title (required)

Enter the title of the article. If you want to use a different title, turn on the “Override title” toggle and enter the title you want to use.

URL (required)

Link to the page you want to reference. You can link to both internal and external pages. Use the search field to find internal pages in W4, or paste the full URL for external pages.

Part 2: After publishing

404 error message

When you save the content reference as a draft or publish it, you’ll get a 404 error message. This is normal. The content reference is not a separate page in W4, but a pointer to content located elsewhere. The card will still display correctly in the News feed.
To edit or unpublish the content reference again, go to the Content overview or My content in Webdesk, or View subpages on the research unit and find it there.
