This guide is for you who will be creating a page for research infrastructure on the new uib.no (W4).
Access and login
Access
To create and edit a research infrastructure page, you need editing access with the correct role. Editing access is managed in UiBtilgang. You must request access to this role there. Your manager can also request the access on your behalf. Find out more about roles and access.
You must be connected to the UiB network to access page editing. If you’re outside UiB, you must use VPN login. Go to w4.uib.no and log in with Feide to edit pages.
Create a page
- After logging in via w4.uib.no, you’ll land on the “Webdesk” start page.
- Under “Shortcuts,” select “Content overview.”
- In “Content overview,” select “+ Add content” and “Research infrastructure.”
Language versions
- The page can be created in Norwegian (Bokmål or Nynorsk), English, or both languages.
- You cannot change the main language after the page has been saved.
- Make sure the correct language is used in the correct language version.
- Be consistent – don’t mix Nynorsk and Bokmål on the same page.
Universal design
We are legally required to ensure our ICT solutions are universally designed. Some of this is secured in the technical solution, but some of it also depends on you as the person publishing content.
- Write in the correct language for the correct language version. English content on a Norwegian page (or vice versa) breaches universal design requirements.
- Link texts must be descriptive. The user should understand where a link leads before clicking it.
- Don’t use images that contain text.
See more information on universal design in the web manual.
Top section
Title (required)
Write the name of the research infrastructure. Don’t use this field for anything other than the name itself.
Lead (required)
Write a short summary of the research infrastructure. Max 900 characters.
Main image (optional)
- A main image is optional. You can only add one.
- The image must meet universal design requirements. Don’t use images of text.
- You can add an image caption, which is shown directly beneath the image.
Affiliation
Here you specify the faculty, department, or centre the research infrastructure belongs to. You can add several if relevant.
Faculty
Search for and select one or more faculties from a predefined list. A link to the faculty is added automatically.
Department (and centre at the department level)
Search for and select one or more departments or centres from a predefined list. A link is added automatically.
Add other affiliations
Here you can add other affiliations not found in the lists above. For each link, provide a “URL” and “Link text.” Use the arrows to change the order.
Main content
About
Write about the research infrastructure. The title of this section is fixed and cannot be changed. You can add headings, paragraphs, images, videos, links, bullet lists, numbered lists, and special characters.
Link list
You can add a link list with related pages. For each link, provide a “URL” and “Link text.” You can add a maximum of 10 links.
Extra sections
If you need more content, you can add extra sections. You choose the title for each section yourself. The order can be changed at any time.
Note: The interface shows two different limits for how many extra sections you can add (5 and 10, depending on where in the interface you look). Check with IT/the Communications Division on the correct limit before publishing.
People
Here you can add groups of people connected to the research infrastructure. You name each group yourself, for example “Administrative staff” or “Advisory board.”
- You can add up to 5 groups.
- Both internal UiB staff and external people can be added to each group.
- Use the arrows to change the order of the groups.
Contact information (Contact box)
Content added here will be shown in a contact box at the bottom of the page. Only fill in the fields that are relevant – empty fields are automatically hidden.
Description
Short text, for example opening hours and address. Max 300 characters.
Provide the contact point’s email address.
Phone number
You must add a country code to the number. Examples: +4712345678, +47 12 34 56 78.
Funding
Funding sources
For each source, provide a “URL” and “Link text.” Use “Add another link” to add more sources.
Logos
Select logos for funding sources that require visible branding to be displayed, for example the Research Council of Norway or the European Research Council (ERC).
Additional information
Here you can add supplementary information about the funding logos. The text is shown directly beneath the logos.
Content manager
It’s mandatory to add the email address of the person responsible for the page’s content. This must be filled in before you can save the page.
Metadata
Metadata is shown in Google, not on the page itself.
Meta title
Can be the same as the page title, but shorten it if it’s long.
Meta description
Max 160 characters. Summarize what visitors can expect to find on the page.
Keywords
Add keywords that are important for search, if they’re not already mentioned in the lead text or main content. Separate the words with commas.
