The faculty web editor is responsible for the faculty’s website and its associated departments. The faculty editor is the link to UiB’s web editor and a member of the web editorial board.
Role description
The web editor has overall responsibility for the websites of the faculty and its associated departments or the university library.
The role participates in UiB’s central web editorial board and leads a local web editorial board at the faculty. The local web editorial board consists of content managers (web editors) at departments, and possibly others who own content on the faculty’s web pages.
The web editor has a central role in the faculty’s communication work, and represents the faculty in relevant networks related to uib.no.
Authority
The faculty web editor has the authority to:
- Approve or reject requests for editing access to the faculty’s and departments’ web pages
- Approve or reject pages created by content producers at the faculty. The editor can also approve or reject content created by content producers at departments or centres.
- Require content managers at the units to follow the management plan, content strategy and other guidelines for web publishing and communication.
- Make changes to web pages that, despite instructions, do not follow the guidelines.
- Make changes to web pages without consulting the content manager, if an acute situation makes it necessary (for example crisis communication, factual errors with public attention, breaches of privacy and reputational risk).
- Revoke editing access from users who leave, change roles, or no longer have a need for it.
- Escalate matters that cannot be resolved locally to UiB’s web editor.
Responsibilities
Editorial responsibility and content
- Be operationally responsible, editorially, for all the faculty’s pages
- Quality assure texts, images, video and other content in line with the content strategy, both in Norwegian and English
- Follow up inquiries and feedback from users via feedback forms, UiB Help and other channels
- Assist content managers at the departments so their web pages align with the content strategy
Organisation, training and access management
- Lead the local web editorial board at the faculty, consisting of any co-editors at faculty level and content managers at departments and centres
- Have overall responsibility for content managers having the necessary training and competence
- Ensure that all content producers have completed mandatory basic training in W4 before being granted editing access
- Have an overview of who holds which editing access
- Establish and maintain routines for onboarding and offboarding of editing access at the faculty and its departments
Collaboration and follow-up
- Report needs to UiB’s web editorial board and web editor
- Ensure that information from UiB’s web editor and web editorial board is passed on to the units at the faculty
- Conduct an annual review of the faculty’s web pages, and ensure that the departments do the same
- Provide relevant information about uib.no to the faculty management
- Make decisions about the website within current guidelines, or escalate matters to the appropriate decision-making level
- Participate in competence-building initiatives, web forums and other relevant arenas
